A nail in the tread doesn't automatically mean a new tire. A puncture in the central tread area can usually be properly patched from the inside - the safe, permanent repair, not a plug from a parking lot. Bring in the flat (or drive in on the spare) and we'll tell you plainly whether a patch will hold or whether the tire is done.
Signs your tires need repair or replacement
- Tread below 2/32" - try the penny test: if you can see all of Lincoln's head in the groove, the tread is legally worn out
- Punctures in the shoulder or sidewall, bulges, bubbles, or visible cords - not repairable
- Cracking or dry rot, common on cars parked outside in Southern California sun
- Vibration at speed, cupping, or uneven wear patterns - often an alignment or balancing story, and catching it early saves the tire
- Tires more than six years old, regardless of tread - rubber ages even when it isn't worn
- The pressure light that keeps coming back - a slow leak worth finding before it strands you

TPMS, decoded: a steady light means a low tire - check pressures first. A light that flashes at startup and stays on usually means a sensor, and sensor batteries retire naturally at roughly seven to ten years. Either way, a quick sort at the counter.
